FG Vows to Use Volunteerism to Address Socioeconomic Challenges
The Federal Government of Nigeria has recognized the importance of volunteerism and has vowed to provide a conducive environment for it to thrive. This acknowledgment comes as the country commemorates the 2024 Volunteers Day.
According to the Deputy Director of the Nigeria National Volunteers Service, office of the secretary to the government (NNVS) Agodi Emmanuel, said the office serves as an institutional framework for managing and coordinating volunteers nationwide. He said the government's recognition of volunteerism underscores its significance in driving Nigeria's development.
According to him, Volunteerism has been instrumental in addressing various socio-economic challenges, such as poverty, education, and healthcare hence, by providing a supportive environment, the government aims to encourage more individuals to engage in volunteer work, fostering a culture of service and community development
The Youth Leadership and Engagement Specialist at VSO, emphasized the significance of the event, highlighting its goal to illustrate the profound impact of volunteerism on future engagements and developments. He commended the government's efforts in recent times, acknowledging that they have been doing enough to support volunteerism.
