For the second day in a row, youths poured out into the streets of Kano Monday morning to protest the selection of the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as the Emir of Kano by the Kano State Government.
Protesters were seen marching in the streets and chanting songs. Affected parts of the city included the Emir's palace, Kano Central Mosque and the airport environs.
Unlike yesterday, there was the absence of the police to keep the protesters in check which led to incidents of violence with some commuters sustaining injuries.
There were also reports of one death as a result of the protest, but was unable to verify the authenticity of this report.
Meanwhile, the grounding of the chartered aircraft used by the Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), compelled the governor to depart Kano by road.
Others who were meant to have flown out with Amaechi yesterday included former Gombe State Governor, Senator Danjuma Goje and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Abubakar Kawu Baraje
