Reps Create Two New Committees, Reorganize Others
The House of Representatives has announced a reorganization of its standing committees while also creating two additional ones. The newly established committees are the House Committee on South West Development Commission and the House Committee on North Central Development Commission.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, on Thursday who made the announcement, appointed Akin Adeyemi as Chairman of the South West Development Commission and Tunji Olawuyi as Chairman of the North Central Development Commission. They will be assisted by Clement Akani and Donald Ojogo, respectively.
According to the Speaker, the creation of these committees was necessitated by the recent enactment of laws establishing the regional commissions, as well as the need for effective oversight of their activities.
Additionally, changes were made to existing committees, Isiaka Nasir Adegboyega now leads the House Committee on National Planning, replacing the previous chairman, who has been appointed Deputy Chief Whip,Abiodun Akinlade has been named Chairman of the House Committee on Agricultural Services, Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, Mustapha Ghali, Garba Saleh Zock, and Tajudeen Adesojee have been assigned as Chairpersons of the Committees on Humanitarian Services, Ethics and Privileges, Culture, and Aviation Technology, respectively.
In another development, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen announced that the House will officially commemorate February 13 each year as Murtala Mohammed Day, in honor of the late former Head of State, Gen. Murtala Mohammed. The House also observed a minute of silence in his memory.
