Communal Clash Claims Life, Properties Destroyed in Ondo State
A communal clash between the Owake and Ebo communities in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State has resulted in the death of an unidentified man. The violence also led to the destruction of properties, including a house belonging to Omorinbola Francis, which was set ablaze. Several injured residents were rushed to the Federal Medical Center in Iwaro-Oka for treatment.
The clash reportedly started when members of the Owake Community installed signposts on disputed lands, which was met with resistance from the Ebo Community. The situation escalated into violence, with suspected thugs attacking members of the Owake Community, leaving many injured.
The Palace of the Asin of Oka-Odo and an event hall were also destroyed during the clash. The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State, CP Wilfred Afolabi, has called for peace and urged all parties involved to sheath their swords. Meanwhile, The Ondo State Police Command has deployed a team to restore peace in the Owake, Ebo, and Oka Odo communities in Akoko South West Local Government Area, following a communal clash that resulted in the death of two persons.
The clash started on January 12th, 2025, when youths from Oka Odo were allegedly attacked by youths from Ebo, who mistook them for individuals from Owake. The conflict escalated into incidents of arson, with casualties on both sides.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, has urged the communities to seek peaceful resolutions to their disputes, warning that violence and property destruction would only result in stagnation and underdevelopment. The police have assured residents that perpetrators of violence on both sides would be brought to justice.
